Authorship and Contribution

Authorship Criteria

The Journal Evaluation in Education (JEE) upholds scientific integrity, collaborative justice, and transparency in the publication process. This policy ensures that all individuals who make significant contributions in the process of formulating ideas, writing, or developing academic papers are appropriately and proportionately recognized. This policy draws on the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), adapted for public administration.

Journal Evaluation in Education (JEE) recognizes authorship based on substantial intellectual contributions to the research and manuscript. All individuals listed as authors must meet the following criteria:

  1. Substantial Contribution: The individual has made a significant contribution to the conception or design of the study, acquisition of data, analysis, interpretation of results, development of methods, or other substantial aspects of the research.
  2. Manuscript Preparation: The individual has contributed to drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.
  3. Approval of the Final Version: The individual has reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript before submission and publication.
  4. Accountability: The individual agrees to be accountable for all aspects of the work and to ensure that questions related to the accuracy, integrity, or validity of the research are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Important: Individuals who contribute to the research but do not meet the authorship criteria should not be listed as authors. Their contributions may instead be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section, where appropriate.

All authors are required to disclose their individual contributions through a Credit Authorship Contribution Statement. The statement must accurately describe each author's role in the research and manuscript preparation. Authors should select the applicable contribution roles from the Credit taxonomy listed below.

Credit Authorship Contribution Statement

The Credit (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) system is used by JEE to provide a standardized description of the individual contributions made by each author to a scholarly publication. Authors are required to identify the roles that accurately reflect their contributions to the submitted manuscript.

  1. Conceptualization: Ideas, formulation or evolution of overarching research goals and aims.
  2. Methodology: Development or design of methodology; creation of models.
  3. Software: Programming, software development, implementation of computer code and supporting algorithms.
  4. Validation: Verification of the overall results, experiments and research outputs.
  5. Formal Analysis: Application of statistical, mathematical, computational or other formal techniques to analyze data.
  6. Investigation: Conducting the research process, including experiments, data collection and evidence gathering.
  7. Resources: Provision of research materials, computing resources, datasets, equipment or other essential resources.
  8. Data Curation: Management, annotation, cleaning and preparation of data for analysis and reuse.
  9. Writing – Original Draft: Preparation, creation and presentation of the initial manuscript.
  10. Writing – Review & Editing: Critical review, commentary, revision and editing of the manuscript.
  11. Visualization: Preparation of data presentations, figures, diagrams, tables and other visual representations.
  12. Supervision: Oversight and leadership responsibility for the research planning and execution.
  13. Project Administration: Coordination and management of research activities and project execution.
  14. Funding Acquisition: Acquisition of financial support for the research leading to the publication.

Authors must ensure that the contribution statement is complete, accurate, and agreed upon by all co-authors. Multiple roles may be assigned to one author, and a single role may be attributed to multiple authors. The statement should be included in the manuscript in accordance with the journal's submission guidelines.

Changes to the authorship, including the addition, removal, or rearrangement of authors, must be agreed upon by all authors and communicated to the editorial office. The journal reserves the right to request clarification or additional information regarding authorship and contribution statements when necessary.
