Effectiveness of Respectful Mind Based Sociodrama Group Guidance for Enhancing Junior High Students' Interpersonal Communication

Share
  • Purpose of the study: This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Respectful Mind based sociodrama group guidance in enhancing junior high school students' interpersonal communication. The study also explored how the integration of the Respectful Mind concept strengthens sociodrama as a guidance intervention for developing students' interpersonal communication skills.

Methodology: This study employed a quasi experimental one group pretest posttest design involving 40 junior high school students selected through convenience sampling from four public schools in Bantul Regency. The intervention included five 90 minute sociodrama group guidance sessions. Data were analyzed using an interpersonal communication scale, Shapiro Wilk normality test, and paired samples t-test in IBM SPSS Statistics.

Main Findings: The findings revealed a significant improvement in students' interpersonal communication after participating in Respectful Mind based sociodrama group guidance. The mean score increased from 96.33 (pretest) to 134.08 (posttest). The paired samples t-test indicated a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (p < .001), demonstrating that the intervention effectively enhanced students' interpersonal communication abilities.

Novelty/Originality of this study: This study advances existing knowledge by proposing Respectful Mind based sociodrama group guidance as a theory driven intervention rather than merely a role playing technique. It introduces a conceptual model that explains how reflective role enactment, empathy, perspective taking, and respect for diversity interact to strengthen junior high school students' interpersonal communication within school counseling practice.
